Mining Creates Jobs

In these tough economic times, we need to encourage business development that creates jobs in our community.  Mining does just that, employing more than 5,374 people statewide.

High paying jobs.  The average mining employee makes nearly $45,000 each year.

Mining's economic impact benefits the entire community.  Mining in Michigan is responsible for an economic impact of more than $18-billion each year.  Mining affects the local community directly through job creation at the mine and indirectly with the creation of new business to serve the mining industry.  Also, workers who earn a higher wage help to spur economic growth in their community

Comprehensive planning for an environmentally safe operation with monitoring and contingency plans to ensure protection of human health and the environment before, during and after the mining phase.
An estimated 200-300 new jobs for 10 or more years of operation with a potential annual payroll of $10,000,000 to $15,000,000.
Many service and spin-off jobs before, during and after mining operations.
Opportunity for sustainable local and regional socioeconomic benefits for future generations, from the financial and other benefits generated during the operation.
Significant new tax revenues for local and state use.
Limited land disturbance to support underground and surface operations.
An environmentally responsible and secure domestic source of valuable metals
